Tia (Ch Gilari Silken Flame Bukhara) wins Reserve Bitch CC at Crufts 2024 for owners David Evans/Brian Hillier
All of our afghan hounds live life to the full and enjoy with us a very carefree lifestyle.
Careful and selective breeding over 50 years has resulted in much of the success of Gilari. We are looking forward to the next generation.
Clari & Jill have both awarded CC’s in Afghan Hounds on many occasions, and Jill enjoys judging other hound breeds, especially Saluki, Whippet & Dachshund breeds.
Our home is in Somerset, and after over a year of looking, eventually in 1971 we purchased our first Afghan and registered GILARI with The Kennel Club. We have gone through from showing dogs to breeding and judging.
In the early years we were fortunate enough to see some wonderful afghans which developed and formed our thoughts about the breed generally. We saw afghans with great type and movement which compounded our thoughts on this unique breed.
Our involvement in the canine world has led to both of us giving much time to the breed. Our aim is to promote, show and breed good quality afghan hounds. We have been Championship Show judges of afghan hounds since the 1980’s.
Our breeding is selective and infrequent; we tend to select and follow lines that reflect what is for us the image of an afghan hound. Our "Devil" litter produced three Champions, our own Ch Gilari Handsome Devil JW; his sister Ch Gilari Devil in Disguise at Numa Bozwood JW owned by David Evans, Brian Hillier & Terry & the late Shirley Carr; and in South Africa, Jackie Kelly's Ch Gilari Devil in Red. Our latest litter picks up the lines we admire very clearly and we are looking forward to the future of the Shades of Red litter by Ch Shimalma Mercurial Magic, top afghan dog in the UK during 2014.
We have been very fortunate to be able to show some truly lovely hounds and look forward to taking the new girls around the UK; Amber (Gilari Prada Rouge) and Panda (Gilari Crimson Magic) will be our main focus for the show-ring and will be joined in the ring by their litter brothers and sisters: Gilari Hollywood Cerise (David Evans, Brian Hillier, Penny Thomson & Sue Truckle); Gilari Red Diamond (Lorna Dunstan & John Waterhouse); Gilari Redwood Earl (Jackie & Alan Buttle); Gilari Rosso Corsa (Mike & Julie Drage); Gilari Vermillion Venus (Emma James); Gilari Silken Flame (Jeanne Coates).
We have both enjoyed judging the breed at Championship level since the mid 1980's and look forward to the next few appointments. Jill also judges other hounds, concentrating on Saluki, Borzoi, Whippet and Dachshund breeds.
